Eliot Bailen, Cello

Eliot Bailen has an active career as an Artistic Director, cellist, composer, and teacher. Praised by Strings Magazine for his “warm focused tone, concentrated expressiveness, and admirable technical command always at the service of the music,” Eliot is Principal Cello of the New York Chamber Ensemble, New Jersey Festival Orchestra, Orchestra New England, and the New Choral Society. Mr. Bailen is also Founder and Artistic Director of the Sherman Chamber Ensemble (CT), Chamber Music at Rodeph Sholom (NY), and Artistic Director of the New York Chamber Ensemble. He also performs regularly with the Saratoga Chamber Players, Cape May Music Festival, Sebago-Long Lake Chamber Music Festival, many of New York’s leading orchestras, and numerous Broadway productions. Recipient of multiple ASCAP awards and commissions, he has received national attention for his musical compositions, especially for his works for children. Mr. Bailen received his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from Yale University and an MBA from NYU; he is on the cello and chamber music faculty at Columbia University, Barnard College, and Teachers College.
